Danny Werfel, the acting head of the IRS, has added his voice to the list of people who are skeptical about ObamaCare, despite his agency being tasked with enforcing the policy. Mr Werfel said he'd rather not get his own health insurance from the system created by the health care overhaul. "I would prefer to stay with the current policy that I'm pleased with rather than go through a change if I don't need to go through that change," he said. The statement quickly fueled Republican criticism of the law, as well as their calls to block the IRS from enforcing it. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said: "Count the head of the IRS among the growing list of folks that includes Big Labor and the law's chief architect who are deeply skeptical of the president's signature achievement and don't want any part of it. No American - even the head of the IRS - should be subjected to ObamaCare."

President Obama has named John Koskinen, a turnaround specialist, as his nominee to head the IRS. Mr Koskinen oversaw the government's preparations for the year 2000 and helped lead Freddie Mac out of its financial crisis. He has also served as the deputy mayor and administrator of Washington. If confirmed by the Senate, part of his task will be to restore confidence in the agency, which is recovering from recent scandals involving inappropriate behaviour toward tax-exemption applicants and lavish spending on conferences. President Obama said of Mr Koskinen: "John is an expert at turning around institutions in need of reform. With decades of experience, in both the private and public sectors, John knows how to lead in difficult times, whether that means ensuring new management or implementing new checks and balances."
